Shinkendo Boston Seminar 2017

It is with great pleasure that Shinkendo Boston invites you to participate in the 2017 Shinkendo Boston seminar with Obata Kaiso. Shinkendo Boston is excited have Obata Kaiso for the first time in historic Boston, Massachusetts. This year's seminar will take place July 21, 2017 through July 23, 2017. The seminar will be held at the Shinkendo Boston dojo in downtown Boston, in the heart of Chinatown, with easy subway transportation throughout Boston for exploring the city after the seminar. Boston is accessible via Logan International Airport, Amtrak, and, of course, scenic roadways for those of you close enough to drive. It is a great privilege for International Shinkendo Federation students to study with the living founder of our martial art, Toshishiro Obata Kaiso, and we are very excited to be able to provide that opportunity to you all. Please join the members of the Shoshinkan Dojo in welcoming Obata Kaiso to Boston to participate in informative and enjoyable seminar.  We look forward to seeing you and urge you to reach out directly should you have any questions whatsoever in order to facilitate your stay in Boston and seminar attendance.

Obata Toshishiro Kaiso

Obata Toshishiro Kaiso

Obata Toshishiro is the founder and headmaster of Shinkendo Japanese swordsmanship. Of samurai family lineage, Obata Toshishiro was born in Japan in 1948. Obata Kaiso is a descendant of Obata Masamori, who served as a general and strategist for the Takeda family during the Sengoku civil war. Masamori would become Lord of Kaizu Jo (castle) in Shin Shu (Nagano) province.

Obata Toshishiro Kaiso is one of the most well-rounded and authentic martial artists in the field today. In addition, Obata Kaiso has translated important works published by the Hawley Private Library, such as "Mon"; "Bows, Arrows and Quiver"; "Token"; "Heiho Okugisho" and the "47 Samurai". Obata Kaiso has also worked in the film industry writing screenplays, action coordinating, and acting (appearing in movies such as Black Rain, Rage & Honor, Rising Sun, Demolition Man, The Shadow, Showdown in Little Tokyo, and The Hunted).

Dr. Shaffee Bacchus Sensei, Shinkendo Boston Shibucho

Dr. Shaffee Bacchus is Shinkendo Boston's Chief Instructor (Shibucho). A direct student of Obata Toshishiro Kaiso, Shaffee Sensei has been practicing Shinkendo for over 14 years and is trained in Shinkendo, Toyama Ryu & Bojutsu. In addition, Shaffee Sensei has trained in several forms of Karate, including Shotokan Karate. 

He will assisting Obata Kaiso in leading the seminar's training, as well as providing guidance to junior students.

Shinkendo Boston Dojo is located in downtown Boston, Massachusetts. Boston is one of the United States' (US) oldest cities. It played a critical role in the US war for independence from Britain and is a proud city of "firsts", home to the US' first public park, first public school, first police force, and first subway system. The dojo is a quick walk or subway ride from great food, great museums, and great history.

Waiver & Release of Liability *

I agree that prior to participating, I will inspect the facilities and equipment to be used, and if I believe anything is unsafe, to immediately advise the instructors of such condition(s) and refuse to participate. 2. I acknowledge and fully understand that each participant will be engaging in activities that involve risk of serious injury, including permanent disability and death, as well as severe social and economic losses, which might result not only from my own actions, inactions or negligence but the actions, inactions or negligence of others, the rules of play, or the conditions of the premises or of any equipment used. Further, there may be other risks not know to myself or others at this time. 3. I assume all the forgoing risk & accept responsibility for damages following such injury, permanent disability, death or severe social & economic losses. I accept full financial and treatment responsibility for any injuries received. 4.
